OMSI Wayfinding Temporary Fence Art
-
The opening of the Tilikum Crossing Bridge and a new transit station at the southern edge of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), created an influx of visitors at this once inactive side of the facility. Recognizing a need for wayfinding within the emerging Innovation District, OMSI asked Mayer/Reed to create a visually engaging system to direct visitors and serve as a placemaking catalyst, setting the stage for district growth. The OMSI-branded district directional signs name other nearby attractions and include small wind turbines at sign post tops. A fence enclosing an empty lot between the transit station and OMSI is mitigated with a temporary colorful art installation designed by Mayer/Reed that also serves as a wayfinding device.
